Log
Log
Log is Playto's home tab. Every captured screen lands here as a paired entry — original text on top, translation below — in the order it happened. You can search, re-translate, edit, listen, and save what you want to study later.
The header
Three controls sit above the feed and change how you read it:
- Screen text / Game audio — two tabs. Text read off the screen and lines transcribed from the game's audio are kept apart.
- Difficulty — marks harder vocabulary on each line, on the CEFR or JLPT scale. This is where the marks live; the overlay stays plain.
- Hide translation — keeps translations out of sight until you open a line.
Read first, check after
With Hide translation on, the feed shows only what the game said. You read the original, decide what you think it means, then open the line to see whether you were right. The translation is one click away the whole time, so nothing is blocked — it just stops arriving before you have tried.
The switch is a reading habit, not a capture setting: lines keep being recorded either way.
Live feed
While capture is running, new entries stream in real time. Each entry shows:
- Original — the text Playto read from the screen.
- Translation — the model's rendering in your target language.
- Meta — timestamp, profile, language pair, and a small quality indicator.
Click any entry to open a detail panel with deeper analysis (see below). The selection persists while new entries continue to stream above it.
Hiding the overlay does not stop any of this. Lines carry on being read and recorded with nothing on screen, so you can play without the translation in view and read the whole scene back here afterwards.
Search & filter
The search bar at the top of Log matches both original and translation text. Filter chips let you narrow further by:
- Profile — limit to entries from a specific game profile.
- Date range — today, last 7 days, custom range.
- Language pair — useful when switching between target languages mid-session.
- Mastery — show only entries whose words are still in your study pool.
Detail panel
Clicking an entry opens a side panel with three sub-views:
- Analysis — a brief LLM-written explanation of what the line means, including tone or context where relevant.
- Difficult Words — a curated list of harder vocabulary from the line, each with definition, reading (for CJK), and a one-click Save to your Word Book.
- Grammar — on-demand grammar breakdown for the original sentence.
The detail panel also surfaces cross-links: if the entry was saved as a sentence or belongs to an album scene, you can jump there with one click.
Edit, re-translate, listen
Per-entry actions you'll reach for often:
- Edit — fix an OCR mistake in the original or polish the translation. Edits stick in the database; future lookups use the corrected text.
- Re-translate — re-run the line through your current model. Useful when you've swapped engines or changed a glossary entry.
- Listen — TTS playback for the original (helpful for reading aloud or pronunciation reference).
- Save — promote the line to Words or save the full sentence so it shows up in Sentences.
Audio (beta)
With game audio capture turned on, spoken lines from the game are transcribed and collected in the Log's Game audio tab — dialogue you hear becomes text you can read back after the scene has passed.
It is an opt-in toggle on the pre-start screen, and also one of the rows on the resident-mode bar, so you can switch it on part-way through a scene without stopping.
Setup, accuracy options and tips are on the Game Audio page.
Bulk actions & export
From the menu in the top-right you can:
- Re-translate selected — multi-select entries and re-run them in batch.
- Export — dump the visible (filtered) log to TSV or CSV for use elsewhere.
- Clear — wipe the log. Sentences and Album entries are stored separately and aren't affected.
