App Settings

App Settings

App settings is about Playto itself: its window, how it starts and closes, what it sends, and maintenance. Anything that changes how a game is read, translated or studied lives on the Settings page instead. Open it from TOOLS (top right) › App settings. Every row has a ? that explains it.

Search

The page opens with a search box (Ctrl+F jumps to it). Type a word such as theme or cache and only the matching rows stay visible.

If you search for something that moved to the Settings page in this update — for example GPU, streak or album — the search tells you which Settings tab it is on now instead of showing no results.

The four groups

Appearance

  • UI Language — the language of Playto's own menus and buttons.
  • Theme — Glass or Classic.
  • App font — Inter, Space Grotesk or your system font.
  • UI Scale — 50–200% if the app looks too small or too large on your screen.
  • Always on top — keeps the Playto window above other apps, handy with windowed games.

Startup

  • Start with Windows — launches Playto when your PC boots; the translation engine loads later, when you need it.
  • Close button — what the window's × does: keep Playto in the tray, quit, or ask every time.
  • Power saving — stops the translation engine after it has been idle for the time you pick (Off, or 1–60 min). Shown when translation runs on your PC.

Data

  • Telemetry — turn Send usage data off at any time, and review what is shared. See the Privacy Policy.
  • Settings export — saves your current settings to a JSON file (API keys and personal data are left out).
  • Data folder — opens the folder where Playto keeps your data.

Maintenance

  • Log detail — how much Playto writes to its log. Leave it on Warn (default) unless support asks for more.
  • Translation cache — Clear deletes the stored translations.
  • Setup / Tutorial — Redo runs the setup wizard or the guided tutorial again.
  • All settings — Reset returns every app setting to its default. This can't be undone.

If you haven't turned on Playto Cloud, a Wordbook card below the groups offers it, so definitions appear the moment you save a word.

What moved to Settings

App settings used to be called Advanced and held many game and study options. Those are now on the Settings page:

  • Pre-start confirmation → Settings › Capture.
  • Album screenshots, Streak Banner and read-aloud voices → Settings › Learning.
  • The translation engine's Backend and GPU Layers → Settings › Method › Local LLM (see Method).

Common reasons to open App settings

  • Change the language of Playto's menus → Appearance › UI Language.
  • Text in the app is too small → Appearance › UI Scale.
  • Stop Playto from staying in the tray → Startup › Close button.
  • Translations feel stale → Maintenance › Translation cache › Clear.
  • Back to defaults after experimenting → Maintenance › All settings › Reset.
  • The translation engine fails to start → that is on the Settings page now: Settings › Method › Local LLM › Backend.
