Game Profiles

Game Profiles

Game-specific profiles that bundle capture settings, glossaries, custom prompts, and vocabulary stats into one shareable package.

What's in a Game Profile?

  • Game metadata — title, display name, genre, process name
  • Language pair — source and target language
  • Capture settings — mode (region/cursor), dimensions, offset
  • Glossary — game-specific term dictionary with categories
  • Word frequency — how often each word appears in the game
  • Vocabulary coverage — percentage of game words you've learned
  • Blacklist — words excluded from auto-save

Glossary

Each Game Profile has a glossary of game-specific terms. These are injected into translation prompts to improve accuracy for proper nouns, items, and skills.

Categories:

  • Character
  • Location
  • Item
  • Skill
  • Game Term
  • (Uncategorized)

Glossary entries can be added manually, imported from a file, or built with the AI Assistant (MCP).

Vocabulary coverage

Each profile shows a percentage and a bar: how many of the different words you have met in that game are already in your Word Book. Common function words are left out, so the number reflects the words that carry meaning.

The more of a game’s vocabulary you save and review, the closer the bar gets to full, so you can see how much of the game you can now read on your own. Words you answer correctly several times count as mastered; the rest count as still learning.

Game Profile Management

Lite: Up to 3 game profiles. Standard: Unlimited — create, edit, duplicate, delete, and share.

  • Create — start a new game profile for any game
  • Edit — modify settings, glossary, and prompts
  • Duplicate — clone an existing game profile as a starting point. A game can have several profiles (e.g. a JP run and an EN run) — duplicating is how you create them
  • Delete — remove a game profile and its associated data

Attaching a running game: when a profile isn't linked to a game yet, Playto lists the games it can see running and links the one you pick — no typing a process name. Detected games also appear in the profile dropdown and on the Start screen, ready to use with one click.

Export & Import (.playto-pack)

Export your Game Profile as a .playto-pack file (JSON format) and share it with other players.

Export includes: game metadata, language pair, full glossary, capture settings, and contributor name.

Import: Load a .playto-pack file to get another player's glossary and settings. You can choose to import glossary only or the full profile.

Community Sharing

Community game profiles live at github.com/playto-app/packs. Each supported game has its own folder with a downloadable .playto-pack file, a preview screenshot, and the contributor's notes.

Install a community game profile: Browse the repo, download the .playto-pack file, then import it from Profile → Import in the app. Glossary entries merge with your existing data — new terms are added, existing ones are preserved.

Share your game profile: Export from Profile → Export, then open a PR at the repo. See CONTRIBUTING.md for the PR flow and what to include.
